Hi Everybody
Anybody knows if intube battery can be repacked with higher capacity cells?
Would Focus offer soon an internal battery with higher capacity as throns 625 have?
I will change my intube then have 376 tec extra more....

I believe I have seen it advertised here, but it could have been another site. Shouldn't be a problem, just need someone with the expertise.

I know in drones, you can buy the cells and rebuild packs. So I'm sure bikes would be similar, just bigger and more complex.

I have seen the do it yourself ebike guys talk about doing it all the time, so they are buying their battery supplies somewhere.

I've done it with drill batteries before, which is a much smaller scale. Mind you, the cells seemed cheap back then, cheap enough to make the time spent worthwhile. Last time I contemplated it for a drill battery, it was slightly cheaper to buy a whole copy-battery.

Assuming the current packs are in a three lots of ten configuration with probably 3500mAh 18650 cells then the best you could hope for is 5000mAh 21700 cells which would equate to approx 540wh, if the slightly larger cells fit of course.

The Thron uses Bosch so a completely different size pack. 21700 cells I doubt would fit if the Shimano powered Jam's use 18650 as they are physically bigger cells.

Unless you can re-pack with higher density cells then I think the answers no, even then heat from higher density cells becomes an issue with safety and performance.

The 2020 Thron² has a standard Bosch Powertube. The opening is sized for the 625Wh tube and has a spacer built into the cover for the 500Wh battery. The Powertube drops out of the downtube and is not "built in" as per your bike.

All depends on the internal space of the downtube.. I dont know if they are bigger on the 2020 version bikes as they use both bosch and shimano this year. I'm quite tempted to take mine out at some point and have a look at how the cells are packaged and to see if using the same arrangement that I couldn't actually use soem 2070 cells in the same fashion to at least increase some capacity

Sorry to burst your bubbles guys but 2170 cells will not fit and until a higher capacity 18650 cell comes out 378 is the best you can do internally. This is something I researched heavily when looking to buy the Jam2 (and I am a battery pack builder from my Radio Control flying days).

Oh well... Saves me wasting my time taking my battery out.... Any chance that there's more room in there to fit more cells at all?

I don't have all the measurements of the downtube but you would need to stuff in another 10 18650 cells and that would require a pretty good amount of space. The other determining factor is the mounting screw locations which determine where in the tube the cells will have to be located, unless you're looking at drilling new holes which would be risky at best.

Focus are using LG INR18650 MJ1 3500mah cells in their frame and TEC pack batteries. Amongst the highest capacity 18650 cells that can deliver 10A. To reach 450Whrs you would need an 18650 cell with 4200Mah and 10A capacity. 400Whrs would require 3700mah cells and really is not much of a gain over the current 378Whrs.

Nope...3500mah is the current leader in capacity. It seems that the technology is out there to increase power density but nothing has hit the market yet. Tesla is expected to announce something soon...
