Had mine updated this morning at Two Wheels in Stourbridge, no charge. Went for full power in EMTB mode as well as Turbo. I’ll report back tomorrow on how it feels.

Finally rode a Rail 7 this morning. Pretty nice. Didn't have the update and you could feel is was slightly less zoomy than the brose.

Handled nicely, the 29ers felt like they just ploughed over things . Sharp steering and easy to throw about .. Brakes were the wrong way around so did have one high speed moment when I almost wrecked it but somehow survived.

Less noisy on it than I expected and about as noisy as a Shimano riding next to it. Rattled a lot though !

Be a beast with the update.

New bike and it rattled a lot?

Done a couple of “proper” rides now since getting the update done, yes the motor does feel a bit stronger, but the biggest difference is with the response in the EMTB mode, it reacts quicker and seems to modulate the power better also it supports much better at lower pedal cadences than it did before. Surprisingly it actually seemed to use less battery charge than on the same loops previously, this may be down to other factors but it certainly hasn’t hit the range negatively.

I currently have my bike at shop for fork change (moving from 35 Gold RL to Lyric Ultimate) and am wondering if I should also ask them to switch to newest software release.....? But I dont want to do that if it impact range more than low single % digit.
I wish we could find more information on this.

The full 85Nm is only used in a few situations, e.g. Turbo mode, thus there won't be much more battery usage than before.

And due to tuning of the various riding modes, in the end you'll actually have a bit more battery left ;)

I had the same concerns but my bike Ian in the shop now and I’m having it upgraded.

It doesn’t affect tour and eco mode so you still have solid options that won’t impact battery life and from reviews so far albeit sketchy info regarding battery usage, nobody is calling out it has a major impact.

Look at it this way, no news is good news!

Thanks guys for your feedback. I may give it a tray...... I can still bring my wife's 625 Wh battery in my backpack in case..... :)

Not had much of a chance to really test the new update, but it does feel more powerful up a steep incline and the power comes through much more progressively.

No noticeable impact to battery life so far but will have to try riding my regular runs and see whether it chews up anymore battery than before...

Guys, my dealer is saying that the 85nm update Will force the bike into the EMTB mode which I do not like, I prefer the standard SPORT mode, as I ride mostly rose and canal paths, Can anyone confirm if I can still have the 85NM update and keep SPORT mode at the same time? I DO NOT want EMTB MODE, but obviously I want more torque.

Got mine updated yesterday

also
Motor software now v.1.1.0.0 (from v.1.0.2.0)
Battery software now v1.10.0.0 (from v.1.9.1.0)

however noticed that the update doesn't show in the app which had me worried when i got home, then checked again this morning with the kiox on the bike and says 1.1.0.0 for motor so sigh of relief but app still showing 1.0.2.0 (yes I have synced it) Battery showing newer version on the app

yes I had the same issue, the app doesn’t update the firmware unless you remove the bike and add it again, I emailed Bosch to tell them, and got asked to send a diagnostic report back!

How do you tune the power used in each mode without a Kiox etc?

I think tuning is possible (only) with the new Nyon.

Before buying my first EMTB I thought that tuning is mandatory feature in bike. After my very first 400km and riding mainly with EMTB-mode I don't have any real reason or problem that I would fix by tuning. Maybe later on?

Had a Trance e+ prior to my new Rail and that needed tuning ability but this Bosch only needs emtb, job done, over and out! ?
Getting update on Monday, might need to mount motor in a boat with our weather though ?

There hasn't been a Sport mode on Bosch EMtb's for a few years now as far as I know.
The eMTB mode is pretty awesome as it adapts to what power you are putting in and multiplies it over the motor. I guess you probably have the Intuvia display which is hard coded with the word Sport, which is actually EMTB mode.

Hey, no I actually have the KIOX display, my bikes a trekking/mountain so technically designed for SPORT mode or EMTB mode. I prefer SPORT as I’m not doing anything technical as you really have to put pressure on the pedals to get it going, whereas SPORT mode, just pedal and go.
TURBO is draining my battery and EMTB just isn’t enough unless I apply pressure.
I don’t see why we have to sacrifice SPORT mode for EMTB mode, why doesn’t BOSCH allow us to have both modes? What’s the big issue?
If anything scrap ECO for EMTB mode.

What about Tour mode?
I have Eco, Tour, EMTB and Turbo.
I use eco 90% of the time if I am using my motor. With that I can ride over 100km or 2000m vertical

My bike is too heavy for ECO, TOUR is nice, and TURBO is amazing but not good for the battery, so SPORT was the perfect mode for me when climbing uphill.
It’s just a shame BOSCH decide what we need and don’t need instead of letting us chose ourselves, and if we want to tweak any settings, then I have to pay £500 for NYON and then subscribe to change to tweak each mode.
I don’t see why the KIOX can’t do it!

I could say that these tuning & tweaking limitations have been very well known at the time you have made an agreement to go for Bosch closed E-bike ecosystem.

It's a bit hard to follow what you really need. You need more power, the TOUR is nice but EMTB is not. EMTB is bad because pressure but SPORT is good because pressure. Would it be easier to just not update your bike?

What do you actually need for your 23kg trekking/mountain bike?

* In the case of the Performance Line CX, eMTB mode can replace Sport mode. It can be activated/ deactivated by the bicycle manufacturer and the specialist dealer.
