I asked the other day at my LBS and the answer was, the new battery will fit 2019 Trance, should have been available now but have been put back a bit. Retail in Aus dollars around $1200.00.

In France the 625Wh batteries are already available but they are only sold with some high-end models, we can't buy them separately to upgrade our bike.
One thing to notice is their weight : they are sligthly lighter than 500Wh (4.3kg while 4.4kg for the 500Wh)

The last generation of Giant batteries were compliant with that esoteric battery standard from the EU which made them safer (at the time it was mooted they may be allowed on aircraft) but heavier - see here...

"The PowerPak 500 battery is made by Giant. I immediately notice it’s quite heavy, and I don’t really understand why. Other 500Wh batteries for frame integration can weigh less than 3kg, this one is 4.4kg with the frame cover that is attached to it. Did Giant decide to save €€ on the battery so they can sell a well specced emtb for €4.599? No, this is an all new more intelligent and safe battery says one of the engineers at Giant. A couple of years ago a new standard for safe batteries emerged, the “EN 50604-11”, and Giant is an early adaptor. This battery is built to be tougher, safer and to last longer."

Maybe these new versions will ditch that, though 100g is not really a significant drop tbh.

the ratio for Li batteries is more or less 100wh for 0.5kg. So when you have a 500Wh battery that weights 4.5kg you have about 2.5kg of Li elements an everything else is BMS and packaging.
A difference of 100g is not so much but if you add 0.6kg for the 125Wh then it means Giant reduced the packaging by 0.7kg and this is a lot for me.

I hope my battery will last long time but for the moment I just noticed that its health is only 94% after only 7 charging cycles while my previous battery on my Full-E was still at 98% after 3 years of same use and same storage conditions. I will talk to my dealer about that next time I see him.

It's available here (sorry, spanish site, but I think it is available in whole europe):

I asked them about compatibility and they said it is 2019 retro compatible. Not cheap... If anyone is interested in buying my 500wh from 2019 please let me know so I can upgrade to the 625Wh :D

Cheers!

It is a shame that Giant does not offer a battery upgrade for those who want to swap the battery and do not need a spare unit :D

Always seams strange to me that you can buy a 625 wh giant battery that Giant dont even recognize, its not on there website or any of its bikes.
Sounds like you have to buy a new charger also, though surley you should be able to charge on bike with the old charger? as they appears to fit the 2019 models as well as the current 2020 ones.

Anybody tried to change the battery cover/seals from one battery to another?
Any advise?

I have a Giant Trance E+ 3 2020.
