Hey Guys/ Girls,

I am new to the forum and have joined get some more info about these bikes.

Currently i am looking at the bike above and wanted to really get a feeling for which would suit me more. Currently i ride regularly on the south downs way and really enjoy bike park like Rogate etc.
This will be my first e bike which i really can not wait to get out and shred on!
I am happy riding most things but really enjoy the technical side of riding with drops, step downs and jumps etc.

So the quandary, do i get a 2020 Trance e+0 which i can get for a great price (11% markdown)? or do i stump up for a full priced Reign.
Will the Trance be capable enough for this type of riding? pros and cons between trance over reign and vice versa?

Thanks in advance guys!!

Regards
Steve

Tough call there Steve. They are close in what they both offer (sort of). Same chain stay length but the Reign does have that slacker front end (64.5 vs 66.5) which makes it more Enduro friendly. Better component spec & longer travel front & rear. FYI / Ive pretty much converted by Trance to an Enduro set up w/a full Marzocchi coil susp (170 front & 150 rear coil).

Dont think youll be disappointed w/either. If it were me, id likely go Trance w/the $$$ savings & up-spec the suspension straight away

Cheers, Joe

Thanks Joe,

that’s really helpful, tbh I was tempted buy the Trance as looks better in my opinion.

Just don’t want to be under gunned or break something on the trance going to big.

Hi I run a trance but I've upped the fork to 160 and took the spacer out of the shock so it's 147mm now my head angle with phone angle thingy measures 64.5 there's really not much in it the trance is 160/147 the reign is 170/141 mm if the trance is alot cheaper I'd go that as there's nowt in it and tbh I think when I comes to riding quick it's 90% rider 10% bike either of them will do most stuff in the UK ? just my thoughts ?

Thanks

Ha this sizing thing always gets me I'm 6ft6 with long legs short body and long arms but I ride an XL 2019 it's 485 reach now on a bike I'd like 500 but it's 24kgs so I don't need the reach for stability and the chainstays are enormous at 470mm so u r in the middle of the bike the shorter reach means I can move about a bit more ? everybody is different I'm an ok trail rider and jump ok but I'm no dirt jumper or freerider if u look at the two fastest enduro riders in the world Richie rude runs a size medium 455 reach he's 6ft and Martin Mae's runs between medium and large 450-470 reach he's 6ft oh and he only runs 180mm rotors and 150mm travel front and rear ? If your in the north give me a shout u can have a go ?

Afraid not, im in the South but thanks for the Info.

So the trance can handle most things? And will be okay for jumping (nothing massive mind!)

I think I’ll take the punt on it! Good price and if they are both similar I should be fine. ??

Hi well the forks are similar 35-36mm stations our local stuff has small drop offs like 1mtr or bit more and jumps are maybe 6ftish and it's fine the lads do bike park wales on them and I'm going to North Wales end of June that gets quite knarly ? I've done Scotland in mine if u haven't ridden an e bike it will surprise u how they jump I find mine more stable and planted for fast stuff and the scary stuff lol

Brilliant, that’s so reassuring. If they are capable a BPW then they will be fine for everything I’ll be doing!

Im going to pull the trigger, Giant Trance E + 0 pro!

Haha good luck remember there is other setting other than turbo lol
I had the same choice as what you are making.
I went reign in the end. The slightly slacker front suits me better.
Also something the bike shop pointed out was the battery and motor cover is more waterproof on the reign.
If you look where the battery cover finishes you can see what they mean.
Very happy with my reign ?

I have both. If you are truly interested in jumping and big drops get the Reign. It’s a beast for that stuff. The Trance is capable and can handle some pretty big stuff but the Reign is very confidence inspiring and does have a better battery cover for water protection although I’ve never had water issues with the Trance. The Trance and Reign battery life is very similar also, maybe get a couple miles more with the Trance. Putting a good 160mm fork on the Trance makes it a good bit better also so that may be something to consider. The Reign turns good in the tight stuff but the Trance turns better. Both will rail a fast turn very similarly l. My bikes are both 2020’s. Hope this helps.

I was going to get a 2021 trance but could only get a medium and felt it was too cramped even though I was riding an Anthem in medium. Ended up buying large 2020 and it feels spot on, although maybe not if I wanted to do bike parks. Coming from 29 er XC it had long stem and stays so perhaps the large felt more at home

How tall are you? I am 5,8 and was thinking large? What you think?

Height isn't always a great measure some of the lads are the same size but ride different sizes cos ones got long legs and arms the other a long torso but tbh at 5"8 that's normally a medium it's normally 6ft ISH for large then xl but everybody is different ?

I’d say a medium Reign or a medium or large Trance at 5-8. The Reign is pretty stretched out compared to the Trance. I’m 5-10 and have a medium Reign and Trance. The Trance feels definitely shorter. But my son is 5-8 and rides a large Reign with a 45mm stem and prefers it over the medium so like Stretch40 said it can vary.

We can ride anything tbh if u think back only 5 years to 2016 an XL reach on most was 470 475mm on like a specialised I'm 6ft 6 and ride an XL trance yes it's shorter but the weight makes it stable but cos it's shorter I can move it about more I'd prefer 500mm reach but for what I ride it's great and playful for an ebike ? I know it's lockdown but try and sit on one ?

So I got my Trance E + 0 pro yesterday!! Riding tomorrow.
Got it in a medium so that will be best for my height!
What do you do with the keys? Should you take them on a ride or leave them at home??
Where can you get a spare battery??
The gap on the battery cover, is it water tight?
Thanks
Steveo! ???

My key is on the garage key ring sometimes it’ll go with me others it stays home. I put foam door sealing strip at bottom battery cover join, shrink-wrapped and used 2/3 a bottle of liquid tape on just about every exposed connector. Also sealed up the little gap in side casing, use a neoprene sleeve on battery and cover over controller. If water gets in it’s earned it

There are plenty of people who have had problems or error codes which have been cleared or fixed by removing the battery then putting it back in again. You can't do that if you have not got the key with you!
Taking the key could save you a long walk home.

Hi mate, it’s not water tight. I would take cover off and clean regularly. Spray contact with ac50. My mate just sent his back to tredz for repair. He’s gutted

Go ahead and order a 160mm Bomber for the big stuff. It will make that Trance a true do it all bike. But not as awesome as the Reign of course, but we tried to tell you that earlier. ?
