    Tandem bike advice

The Hase tandems were really popular on the German tandem meets we went on. Their owners loved them. However, the stoker needs nerves of steel: they're exposed at the front with no steering control and no brakes. I realise that the stoker on a traditional tandem also has no steering or brakes...

Tyre Tape to Seal Permeable Tubeless Tyre

100% with you there. I've used Schwalbe rim tape over the whole width. However, I put a narrow run of Schwalbe tape over the spoke holes. I think that the problem is a combination of the sharp, elliptical holes and the tyres/wheels getting so darned hot here that the tape gets softened. I've...

Tyre Tape to Seal Permeable Tubeless Tyre

These are "proper" tubeless tyres that were fine and never showed any surface weeping when they were/are new. The bubbles (mostly jets of air strong enough to burst the bubbles) are caused by the hundreds of thorn punctures. I can follow Steve's thinking about the sealant plugging the holes...

Tyre Tape to Seal Permeable Tubeless Tyre

Tubeless isn't always as straightforward as it ought to be. Especially when you (by that I mean "I") do something stupid. I've been running tubeless for a few years now on my normal bike and the first thing I did when the Focus arrived a couple of years ago was to upgrade to tubeless. The joke...

Santana have that covered: they make ones that dismantle.

    Tandem bike advice

One thing to keep in mind is your terrain. We spent years touring in Germany on river valley routes. Tandems are great on the flat or on mild inclines. But they really hate going uphill. Where we now live, it's all hills and the tandem hangs on a wall while I think about how to add a motor.

    Tandem bike advice

I've got a Santana. Made in the USA but we bought it in Germany. As mentioned above, it's critical that you get the sizing right. Santana have an excellent range and you really do need to have a try out on one at one of their open days. Get it wrong and you'll really regret not being able to...

    Jam 2 7 thoughts

If it's your first MTB/EMTB then you should consider the Thron2 rather than the Jam2. It's a little more upright than the Jam2 and gives more confidence to the new rider. All of the "lads" (none of us are young!) around here have opted for the Thron2 after trying out my Jam2. I've had the Jam2...

    Chain lube recommendation

I'm still doing it. Had 3 chains in rotation and got 5500 out of the drive train. On the new drive train it's a bit more complex. Had three chains in rotation but had "a bit of a mishap" and bent a chain and the largest sprocket when the rear mech went through the back wheel. Now rotating two...

    Thron2 6.8 or 6.9 advice

A couple of my mates have bought them. They love 'em. My wife has the 6.7EQP. She loves it. Nothing to look out for other than if you get it mail order you really do need to do a proper check on every fastener with a torque wrench. Almost everything is left loose expecting a dealer to do a...

    New Bosch Tour + Mode

It does indeed sound like you have Tour and not Tour+. Especially if you can see the jump in assist on the display.

Do you use Garmin or equivalent to navigate new trails?

Regularly. This country is too big and wild to rely on taking a chance - which is a good way to drop off a cliff (or take a shortcut across a fighting bull farm...)

    New Bosch Tour + Mode

Great stuff! The website I'd look up showed the Kathmandu with 75Nm torque - but it was a dealer site and they've got it wrong 😳

    New Bosch Tour + Mode

Sorry! I hadn't realised. As you say, this is a touring commuter. You have got the correct software (and it is limited to 75Nm torque) for your model of bike - the dealer did do his job properly. I'm not sure whether the Bosch dealer software will allow you to change to the mountain bike...

    2021 Jam2 which charger do you get 2A, 4A or 6A?

It'll be the cheapest! :ROFLMAO: (I'm pretty sure they all get delivered with 2A chargers. Both of ours came with them).
