Lightweight e-downcountry/trail with 600/840Wh modular battery

The Specialized Levo R 2026 is the sport-trail platform in Specialized's revamped Levo line for 2026, a full 29er carbon trail-eMTB powered by the new Specialized 3.1 motor with 105 to 111 Nm of torque and 810 to 850 W of peak power. Headline numbers: 140 mm of fork travel, 130 mm at the rear, a 64.8 to 65 degree size-tuned head angle, the broadest 6-size matrix in the Specialized eMTB line (S1 through S6 from 400 mm to 525 mm reach) and a sub-£5500 entry price on the Comp Alloy. The community framing is mixed but practical: @erider1 highlights the Levo R as offering more aggressive XC-leaning geometry and 29er wheels compared to the longer-travel Levo 4 Carbon Comp.
Drive system and range. The Specialized 3.1 motor delivers 105 Nm of torque and an 810 W manufacturer-claimed peak on the Comp and Expert trims, stepping up to 111 Nm and 850 W on the S-Works (post-OTA tune). The motor weighs 3.15 kg, which is heavier than the Bosch CX Gen 5 (2.8 kg) or Avinox M2 (2.52 kg) but is offset by Specialized's exceptionally clean integration. Battery capacity is not specified in the gold facts but the platform inherits the proven Specialized integrated-battery design. @BrunoSln documents an S-Works owner seeking 600 Wh battery compatibility, suggesting that the stock battery is smaller than the 800 Wh class.
Geometry and handling. A 64.8 to 65 degree size-tuned head angle is moderate trail (slacker than typical 66 degree trail rivals), with the smaller S1 size getting the 64.8 figure. Reach progression is exceptional: S1 at 400 mm, S2 at 420 mm, S3 at 450 mm, S4 at 475 mm, S5 at 500 mm and S6 at 525 mm. This is one of the few platforms with a 125 mm reach span: genuinely small (sub-160 cm) and very tall (over 195 cm) riders are both accommodated. The 447 mm chainstay is held constant across all six sizes. Wheelbases run 1160 to 1309 mm, again with the widest span in the eMTB market.
Build and value. Four trims with proper price discipline. Comp Alloy at £5499. Comp at £6799. Expert at £8499. S-Works at £12499. @Zimmerframe documents a major US pricing reset: Levo R S-Works MSRP reduced from $15650 to $11500, in line with Specialized's "operational improvements" pricing strategy for 2026 to recover competitiveness against Amflow and Avinox-powered rivals. The S-Works gets the higher 111 Nm / 850 W tune via post-OTA software, the lower trims sit at 105 Nm / 810 W. Value pick is the Comp at £6799: full carbon frame, Specialized 3.1 motor and modern geometry.
Community-verified strengths. Three things owners praise. Specialized's clean integration and motor refinement: the 3.1 motor is the smoothest in the lineup and the cleanest visual integration in mainstream eMTBs. Long-term reliability is generally strong: @rydeezie documents Specialized Rider Care offering a fresh 2-year warranty on replacement motors. And the 6-size matrix from 400 mm S1 to 525 mm S6 is industry-leading for size accommodation.
Caveats and known gripes. Three honest flags. @Ndanger documents the wider community concern around Specialized's positioning of the higher-spec bikes as "elite status trophy" rather than functional product. @salko notes the broader Levo 4 family was felt to be "kinda outdated design compared to previous gen and especially to all the competition out there" before the price reset, and gating S-Works's extra power behind a software paywall was unpopular. And @WestCoastRider flags a workshop friction point: routing the rear brake hose through the down tube requires dropping the motor on prior Levo generations, which may carry forward.
Verdict. The Specialized Levo R 2026 is for the trail-bike rider who wants a sport-focused 140/130 mm eMTB with the Specialized 3.1 motor's 105 to 111 Nm of torque, the deepest dealer network in the market and one of the widest size matrixes (S1 to S6). If you want longer travel, more battery range or the absolute lightest weight, look at the Levo (full-power) or Levo SL families. Production status is current.
