Specialized 3.1 motor full-power eMTB with GENIE shock

The Specialized Levo 2026 is the Gen 4 flagship full-power eMTB, built around the new Specialized 3.1 motor (105 Nm, 250 W rated, 810 W peak, 3.15 kg) and a side-load removable 840 Wh M50 battery. Travel is 160 mm front and 150 mm rear via Specialized's Horst Link layout. Geometry is properly slack with a default 64.5° head angle and 12 combined adjustment settings (three independent — offset headset cups, shock-mount flip chip, Horst-link flip chip). Five Specialized "S2-S6" sizes provide an excellent fit range from 435 mm to 535 mm reach. Community response to the Gen 4 has been mixed but generally positive once owners actually ride the bike — @WatermanJim reports "the bike did live up to the hype. Much faster and smoother while also being more lively and manoeuvrable and thank god it's quiet."
Drive system and range. The Specialized 3.1 motor is the in-house unit Specialized has developed in partnership with Brose, delivering 105 Nm of torque and 810 W peak (S-Works variants run 111 Nm/720 W post-OTA). After-OTA tuning has continued to refine motor response. The 840 Wh M50 battery is genuinely class-leading: @Idlefrog notes it's "12% larger than Bosch 750 Wh", and @Mikerb documents a 75-year-old rider completing a 25-mile country ride with 1,800 ft of elevation and "finished with 50% battery remaining" on a 90 Nm Gen 3 with smaller pack — Gen 4 with 840 Wh exceeds this comfortably. Range extender compatibility lifts the effective ceiling further. Mission Control app provides ride data, Dynamic MicroTune electronic mode adjustment and OTA firmware updates.
Geometry and handling. The Gen 4 brings full geometry adjustability for the first time on a Levo: head angle 63.5°/64.5°/65.5° via offset headset cups, BB height ±6 mm via shock-mount flip chip, and chainstay 435 mm or 444 mm via Horst-link flip chip. @Desert_Turtle rates the impact: "This new chassis is way better than the other 3 generations. Not only is it stiffer and stronger, it's incredibly adjustable. Now you have the ability to adjust [chainstay independently of BB]." Reach progresses generously across the S2-S6 lineup with 20-25 mm jumps between sizes. Wheelbase grows from 1,200 mm to 1,323 mm.
Build and value. Specialized offers the Gen 4 Levo across multiple trims: Comp (carbon), Pro, Expert and S-Works, with prices typically spanning £6,500 to £14,000. @Zimmerframe notes a meaningful 2025 price reduction: "Specialized Levo R S-Works MSRP reduced from $15,650 to $11,500" — although that reduction applies to US and Canada markets only. Mission Control app integration, SWAT downtube storage with a magnetic pouch, and MasterMind T-series colour top-tube display all feature across the range. SRAM Eagle Transmission AXS appears on higher trims.
Community-verified strengths. @ricko compares the Gen 4 to a Trek Rail 9.9 XX1 (Bosch Gen 4) and Shimano EP8 bikes, ruling out the Amflow as "not in the same class of bike IMO" and praising the Levo's motor: "The motor outshines [previous Shimano units]." @Power1tobe wrote a detailed long-form review after multiple rides on a Gen 4 Pro, taking the time to test in different conditions. The Cascade-link aftermarket option (Evo link at $70 vs Cascade at $370) gives flexibility on progression.
Caveats and known gripes. Gen 3 owners are notably reluctant about the Gen 4: @BikeBert calls it "overhyped, overweight and late to the party". @Zimmerframe reports "Pretty Thorough Specialized Disappointment" with great riding characteristics but no genuine revolution. Weight has risen versus earlier Levos — @Jeff McD notes 54.2 lbs (24.6 kg) stock for the Gen 4 Comp S frame, requiring lightweight wheelsets to drop below 48 lbs. Specialized's web profile P&L display is famously buggy and Brose-based motor warranty replacements still happen. Pricing remains premium against Avinox-equipped rivals.
Verdict. The Levo Gen 4 is for the rider who wants Specialized's mature ecosystem, the largest battery in mainstream eMTB, properly adjustable modern geometry across five S-sizes, and the deepest dealer network globally. It is not for buyers chasing absolute lightweight, riders who already own a Gen 3 and want a revolution, or anyone outside Specialized dealer reach. Production status is current with the Levo Gen 4 lineup the headline 2026 platform.
