Carbon Bosch CX Gen 5 trail eMTB with 600Wh integrated battery

The Santa Cruz Vala 2026 is the brand's mid-travel carbon enduro eMTB built around the Bosch Performance Line CX Gen 5 motor and a 600 Wh integrated battery in a mullet wheel package. Headline numbers: 160 mm of fork travel, 150 mm at the rear, 120 Nm of peak CX Gen 5 torque, a properly slack 63.9 degree head angle, reach progression 432 mm on S, 456 mm on M, 477 mm on L and 497 mm on XL, with size-tuned chainstays growing 440 mm to 447 mm. The community framing is positive: @Andeh describes it as "a damn fine bike" that "rides like a Santa Cruz", with strong descender credentials.
Drive system and range. Bosch Performance Line CX Gen 5 delivers 120 Nm of peak torque, 250 W nominal and a 750 W manufacturer-claimed peak. The 600 Wh battery is the bike's main range compromise: @steve_sordy notes the 600 Wh battery is standard with a non-quick-release design, so removal is impractical. @prolix2 reports a 29 mile range in EMTB mode with 1200 ft vertical on a 155 lb rider, suggesting realistic 40 mile-plus capability on Tour or Eco. Range-extender support exists but compatibility is fiddly: @Andeh reports the 150 mm extender cable only fits in the water-bottle mount and causes shock-reservoir contact, while @eaxford finds the 250 mm cable correct for an XXL frame.
Geometry and handling. A 63.9 degree head angle is properly slack and modern-enduro, slacker than typical 64.5 degree rivals. Reach steps clean 432 mm on S, 456 mm on M, 477 mm on L and 497 mm on XL. The size-tuned chainstay is the standout: 440 mm on S, 441 mm on M, 444 mm on L and 447 mm on XL keeps balance across sizes. Wheelbase 1211 to 1298 mm. @Chicane confirms the bike is fixed MX (mullet) configuration only: 29 inch front, 27.5 inch rear. @Andeh reports the rear end "seems to get out of the way / swallow holes/square hits better" than Santa Cruz's prior VPP bikes.
Build and value. Santa Cruz publishes the Vala 2026 as a carryover of the 2025 line, with the carbon chassis available across multiple trim levels. The aluminium AL Deore version weighs 24.09 kg per @Nomadic Dad's measurement. The X0 RSV/Reserve carbon trim sits at around 23 kg per @prolix2 (50.8 lbs medium). At the carbon-frame premium typical of Santa Cruz, the Vala sits at the more premium end of the 600 Wh Bosch CX enduro segment.
Community-verified strengths. Three things owners praise. Bosch CX Gen 5 ride feel: @Lee Dove reports "very nice motor response" and "handles well and feels lighter than it is" on a R-trim build. The chassis quality is consistent with Santa Cruz's heritage: @Andeh reports it rides "stiff and precise but not harsh, goes where you want it to". And the 63.9 degree head angle paired with size-tuned chainstays makes the Vala one of the most modern-geometry enduro eMTBs available with the latest Bosch motor.
Caveats and known gripes. Three honest flags. The 600 Wh battery is small by 2026 standards. @steve_sordy flags the non-quick-release battery as a practical irritation: removal is "impractical". @JJ765 documents fixed-MX setup and non-removable battery as "dealbreakers" for some buyers, particularly those who want 29er/mullet flexibility or genuine battery swaps. And the range-extender cable compatibility issues noted above are real friction points.
Verdict. The Santa Cruz Vala 2026 is for the rider who wants a premium Santa Cruz carbon chassis with the latest Bosch CX Gen 5 motor, modern slack enduro geometry and size-tuned chainstays, and is happy with a 600 Wh battery and fixed mullet wheel setup. If you want bigger battery range, full 29er options or a removable pack, look at a Pivot Shuttle LT, Cannondale Moterra LT or Cube Stereo Hybrid 160. Production status is current.
