Carbon Shimano EP801 820Wh enduro mullet eMTB

The Rotwild R.E850 2026 is the German brand's reworked full-power carbon enduro eMTB, replacing the well-regarded R.E750 with significant upgrades. It runs the Shimano EP801 motor (85 Nm, 250 W rated, 600 W peak, 2.7 kg) and the new Rotwild IPU850 battery (820 Wh, built around 21700 cell technology). Travel is 170 mm front and 160 mm rear, head angle 64.5°, and Rotwild offers the bike in four sizes from S to XL. There's no significant community thread on this exact model yet on the forum, but Rotwild has built a strong reputation through 2024-2025 with its Avinox-powered R.E-X850 sibling, and the R.E850 brings the same engineering and integration quality to a Shimano-powered platform at a more accessible price point.
Drive system and range. The Shimano EP801 is the refined evolution of the long-running EP8, sharing the 85 Nm torque figure but with re-engineered low-cadence behaviour, quieter operation and Bluetooth/Di2 integration. Power character is naturalistic rather than headline-grabbing — Shimano prioritises rider control over peak figures. The IPU850 battery is the headline win on this build: at 820 Wh it sits among the very largest packs available, comfortably exceeding the 720-800 Wh now standard on Bosch and DJI rivals. Rotwild's choice of 21700 cells is meaningful — these are larger-diameter, higher energy density cells than the 18650s most other manufacturers use, which explains the capacity advantage in the same physical envelope. Expect 1,400-1,800 m of climbing per charge in trail conditions.
Geometry and handling. A 64.5° head angle is squarely modern-enduro and a half degree steeper than benchmark rivals like the Trek Slash+ (63.7°) or Norco Range VLT. Reach progresses S 420 mm, M 440 mm, L 465 mm, XL 490 mm — moderate sizing that fits riders who sit between sizes. Chainstay length is fixed at 440 mm across all four sizes, which leans toward agility for taller riders but is well-balanced for shorter ones. Wheelbase opens from 1,199 mm on the S to 1,282 mm on the XL. 29in wheels front and rear (no published mullet option in the gold spec).
Build and value. Rotwild typically offers the R.E850 in two or three trim variants in their domestic German market, with components scaling from Shimano XT/Deore 12-speed and four-piston brakes on entry trims through to Fox Factory Kashima suspension and SRAM Eagle Transmission AXS on the top spec. The IPU850 battery is the standout value proposition — most rivals at the same trim level run smaller packs, so Rotwild is offering 15-20% more energy at competitive money. Rotwild is the in-house brand of ADP Engineering, the German engineering firm that does development work for several major bicycle manufacturers, and the engineering polish shows.
Caveats and known gripes. Rotwild's UK and US dealer footprint is thin — the brand is strongest in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Buyers should confirm dealer support and warranty paths before purchasing. The Shimano EP801's 85 Nm is now mid-pack against the latest Bosch CX Gen 5 (120 Nm) and DJI Avinox M2S (150 Nm), although EP801 reliability and quiet operation remain genuine selling points. As an in-house battery format, the IPU850 means spare parts and replacement packs come only through Rotwild — confirm long-term availability before committing. 64.5° head angle, while squarely enduro, is half a degree steeper than the most aggressive rivals. The lack of community ownership data on the forum means real-world reliability data is limited at this stage.
Verdict. The R.E850 is for the rider who wants a properly-engineered German carbon enduro eMTB with a class-leading 820 Wh battery and proven Shimano EP801 power. It suits European buyers, particularly in DACH countries, who can access Rotwild dealer support. It is not for buyers chasing the latest 100+ Nm motors, riders outside continental Europe without dealer support, or anyone seeking a longer-travel 180/170 mm enduro platform. Production status is current and the R.E850 is shipping for the 2026 model year as the direct successor to the R.E750.
