Rise 2025
How current the bike is — newer chassis, motor and battery score higher. 10 = brand-new, 0 = legacy.

The Orbea Rise 2025 is the original lightweight eMTB, refreshed for 2025 with the Shimano EP801 RS detuned motor and an integrated 420 Wh battery in a 140/140 mm carbon chassis. Headline numbers: 18.8 kg claimed on the M-Team and base trims (down to 16.32 kg on the SL hardtail), an 85 Nm motor rated capability detuned in software to deliver Orbea's signature natural-feeling power, a 64.5 to 65.5 degree size-tuned head angle and a reach span of 425 mm on S to 515 mm on XL across an exceptional 20-size matrix. The community framing is consistent: this is the bike that made the lightweight eMTB category mainstream, and the 2025 refinements keep it competitive.
Drive system and range. The Shimano EP801 RS is a "Rider Synergy" detuned version of the standard EP801, configured to deliver a 60 Nm trail-feeling default power profile rather than the full 85 Nm Boost. @Smeer documents the practical 60 Nm number versus the Trek Fuel EXe's 50 Nm. @Roaming50 confirms a typical 42 Nm and 250 W trail-assist setup in real use, which is the sweet spot for natural ride feel. The 420 Wh integrated battery is the trade for the lightweight chassis. @GunnarNyb records 124 Wh/hr consumption across 2.9 hours moving time and 7.7 Wh/km on a 47 km ride with 800 m of vertical, on the prior 360 Wh M20: scale up to 420 Wh and you have 60 to 80 km of mixed-assist range. A range-extender ships separately to push deeper days. @ep8-rs flags the EP801 RS does not have overrun capability.
Geometry and handling. A 64.5 to 65.5 degree size-tuned head angle is unusual: Orbea slacken the angle on smaller frames (65.5 degrees on S) and steepen on the larger XL configurations, which is opposite to the typical industry approach. Reach steps clean 425 mm on S, 455 mm on M and up to 515 mm on XL, with chainstays growing 435 mm on S, 445 mm on M, and 448 mm on larger frames. The wheelbase progression 1185 mm to 1320 mm is wide for a lightweight bike and reflects Orbea's commitment to size-by-rider geometry rather than one-frame-fits-all. Owners praise the natural lightweight ride feel: @CrashMaster compares the Rise M10 directly with the Trek Fuel EXe, with both bikes feeling natural in their power delivery.
Build and value. Eight trims from £3299 to £10999 is the broadest single-platform range in the lightweight category. The H10 alloy hardtail at £3299. The H30 alloy at £4499. The SL hardtail at £4999 and an exceptional 16.32 kg. The M-Team at £6500. The M10 at £6999. The M20 at £7999. The base "M-XX trim" at £8999 and the M-LTD top-spec at £10999. Value pick is the M-Team at £6500 with the same 18.8 kg as the higher-priced builds.
Community-verified strengths. Three things owners praise. The carbon chassis quality and ride feel: @jka reports nearly a year of M10 ownership with no regrets. The size-tuned chassis and ability to fit shorter and taller riders properly: @ebsocalmtb compares an XL with a medium across the family. And Orbea's wide trim ladder lets buyers pick their price point on the same chassis: @ebsocalmtb highlights the value of being able to "tailor the weight of the bike to match the ride".
Caveats and known gripes. Three honest flags. The 420 Wh integrated battery is the obvious trade for the lightweight brief: @GunnarNyb's prior 360 Wh consumption data shows long-day rides need a range extender. @skizzian flags headset cable routing on the Rise LT family as problematic, requiring special handlebars that accept cabling under the grips. And the EP801 RS motor character has been described as less smooth than the TQ HPR50 or full-power EP801 by some side-by-side testers, with @Zimmerframe calling the Rise a detuned EP8 that gives away the magic when you turn up assistance.
Verdict. The Orbea Rise 2025 is for the rider who wants the original, properly engineered lightweight eMTB with a 140/140 mm chassis, the most refined Shimano EP801 RS tune, an 18.8 kg claimed weight and Orbea's industry-leading size matrix. If you want full-power assistance or a removable battery, look at the Orbea Wild or Specialized Levo. Production status is current.
