EMTB Forums verdict

The 2023 Orbea Rise was the updated version of Orbea's class-defining lightweight trail eMTB, built around the "more bike, less E" idea. It pairs 140mm of rear travel and a 140 or 150mm fork on 29in wheels with a usefully modern but still trail-friendly stance: a 66 degree head angle, 77 degree effective seat angle and 474mm reach in size L, on 445mm chainstays across every size.

The defining feature is the drive system. The carbon M-series (M-LTD, M-Team, M10, M20) and the top alloy H10 run the Shimano EP801-RS, while the cheaper alloy H20 and H30 use the EP601-RS (also badged EP6 RS). Both are Orbea Rider Synergy tunes that cap torque at 60Nm and tune the assistance for a natural, range-focused feel rather than raw shove, with optimal cadence quoted at 75 to 90rpm. A compact 360Wh pack is standard on the carbon bikes, with a 540Wh option; the alloy H bikes carry the 540Wh pack as standard with a 360Wh option, and a 252Wh range extender bolts on for longer days, taking the system to as much as 792Wh.

On value, the M10 at GBP 7,999 has historically been the sweet spot, with Fox Factory suspension and a mostly Deore XT drivetrain. The M-Team adds XT Di2 electronic shifting, and the GBP 9,999 M-LTD chases minimum weight at 15.9kg with XTR and a lighter Fox 34 build. The alloy H range opens the platform up from GBP 4,999, with the H30 bringing a Marzocchi Bomber Z2 fork.

This 2023 model is discontinued. It was superseded by the heavily revised Rise of late 2023, and later by the Rise SL and Rise LT, which moved to a new frame with updated geometry and larger battery options, so newer Rise generations are not directly cross-compatible on battery or some fit numbers.

What the numbers mean on the trail

Computed from this bike's geometry, spec and build kit — reach, wheelbase, chainstay, head and seat angles, travel, motor, weight and the fork/tyre/brake spec — and worked out per size, because a fixed chainstay can make an S and an XL feel very different.

Size
Descending
60

A solid all-round descender (66° head angle, 140mm) — capable in the rough and steep without being an all-out bruiser.

Playfulness
98

Short 445mm rear and a lighter build — easy to pop, manual and throw around.

Size balance
96

Rear-long with a planted front in L (FC:RC 1.76) — easy to weight the front and quick to turn, though it can feel light at the back at real speed.

Technical climbing
79

Shimano EP801 RS and a steep 77° seat angle keep the weight planted over the front — a proper winch. 600W of peak power and 85Nm of torque — a strong full-power motor.

Best suited toPlayful trail riding — jumps, pumps and tight, techy singletrack.

Easy to throw around; happiest when you're active on the bike.

Watch out forNo major red flags in the L geometry.

The numbers are well balanced for its category.

“So it arrived yesterday...M10 large...fit and finish is really solid. There is def a rattle from the motor but only rode it briefly. The power to weight ratio feels good actually better than i expected. I need to play with the E-TUBE…”
