Carbon SLL mullet enduro on Bosch Performance CX Gen.4 + 750Wh

The KTM Macina Kapoho 2024 was KTM's carbon mullet enduro eMTB, built around the Bosch Performance Line CX Gen 4 motor (85 Nm torque, 250 W rated, 600 W manufacturer-claimed peak, 2.9 kg) and a 750 Wh Bosch PowerTube battery. Travel is 160 mm front and 160 mm rear on a Dimmix Performance carbon chassis with Straight-Line-Link (SLL) 4-bar suspension. Mixed wheels (29F/27.5R). Three sizes M/L/XL, reach 445-480 mm, head angle 65.0 degrees flat, chainstays 442 mm flat, wheelbase 1214-1259 mm. Claimed weight 25.9 kg. Single base trim at £5,899. The community read in one line: a properly aggressive Austrian carbon mullet enduro with the Bosch CX Gen 4 ecosystem and Dimmix tube technology, now discontinued and superseded by KTM's newer Macina Lycan/Prowler platforms.
Drive system and range. The Bosch CX Gen 4 is the predecessor to the current Gen 5, but remains a highly refined and well-supported motor — 85 Nm torque, smooth and quiet, with free OTA firmware updates via the eBike Flow app and the deepest dealer network in Europe. The 750 Wh Bosch PowerTube battery is removable for off-bike charging. Real-world range will sit in the 50 to 75 km territory in mixed terrain on Trail/eMTB mode, with extreme cases pushing further on Eco mode. The Bosch ecosystem remains the gold standard for motor support and longevity.
Geometry and handling. Modern mullet enduro. 65.0 degree head angle is right on the trail/enduro boundary — slacker than the Macina Lycan trail platform but not into super-slack DH territory. Reach progresses 445 mm (M), 463 mm (L), 480 mm (XL). Chainstays held at 442 mm flat across all three sizes. Mixed-wheel format (29F/27.5R) keeps the rear end agile while preserving the front wheel's rollover advantage. Wheelbase 1214 to 1259 mm.
Build and value. Single base trim at £5,899 (25.9 kg). Build varies across trim levels — entry gets RockShox 35 Silver TK fork, Fox Float X Performance rear shock, Shimano M4100/MT420 4-piston brakes, and Shimano Deore XT M8100 mixed drivetrain. Higher trims step up to Fox 38 Float Factory at 180 mm front. At under £6,000 for a Bosch CX Gen 4 carbon mullet enduro with 750 Wh battery, the Kapoho was a strong value play during its production run.
Community-verified strengths.
- Bosch CX Gen 4 motor and 750 Wh PowerTube ecosystem support is the longest-running and best-developed in the eMTB market.
- Carbon Dimmix Performance frame with Straight-Line-Link suspension is well-engineered Austrian quality.
- Mullet (29F/27.5R) format with 160/160 mm travel hits the sweet spot for trail-with-attitude riding.
Caveats and known gripes.
- Production status: discontinued. New buyers will be looking at second-hand examples or KTM's current Macina Lycan/Prowler successors.
- @RickBullotta documented weight balance issues on an older KTM Macina: "I almost killed myself on a big drop on my first eMTB (KTM Macina) because it was soooo nose heavy." Worth investigating on the specific Kapoho geometry.
- 25.9 kg claimed weight is heavy for a carbon enduro by 2024+ standards.
- Fixed 442 mm chainstays across all three sizes — no size-tuning.
- Bosch CX Gen 4 is now a generation behind the current CX Gen 5 (120 Nm) and CX-R race motor — replacement motors are still available but the platform feels less powerful versus 2025-2026 rivals.
- @RickBullotta's ownership progression: KTM Macina → Pivot Shuttle → Orbea Rise → Gen 3 Levo → Amflow PL Pro. The Macina was the starting point but not the destination.
Verdict. The KTM Macina Kapoho 2024 was a properly considered Austrian carbon mullet enduro for buyers who valued the Bosch CX Gen 4 ecosystem and KTM's engineering pedigree. As a current new purchase it's discontinued — used examples in good condition remain genuine bargains for buyers who want a 160/160 mm carbon mullet at strong used pricing. New buyers should look at the current KTM Macina Lycan trail platform, or rivals like the Canyon Spectral:ON, Cube AMS Hybrid 177 and Norco Sight VLT for similar travel categories. Production status: discontinued.
