EMTB Forums verdict

The Husqvarna Light Cross LC4 2024 is the Swedish-Austrian brand's short-travel carbon trail eMTB, sitting alongside the longer-travel Mountain Cross MC range. It is built around the Shimano EP801 motor (85 Nm, 250 W rated, 600 W peak, 2.7 kg) and a 720 Wh removable battery. Travel is a conservative 130 mm front and 120 mm rear, head angle 66.0-66.5° across the sizes, and the carbon main frame is paired with an aluminium rear triangle. There's no significant community thread on this specific model on the forum, but Husqvarna sits within the Pierer Mobility group (KTM, GasGas, Felt) and the Light Cross LC4 has been well-received in European press for its quiet pedalling character and well-judged trail geometry.

Drive system and range. The Shimano EP801 is the refined evolution of the EP8 motor, sharing the same 85 Nm torque and 600 W peak figures but with reworked low-cadence behaviour, quieter operation, and full Bluetooth/Di2 integration. The motor's upright orientation gives it good passive cooling — useful on long sustained climbs. The 720 Wh battery is generously sized for a 130 mm trail bike; expect 1,200-1,600 m of climbing on a charge in trail conditions, helped by efficient short-travel kinematics. Removable battery means easy off-bike charging. E-Tube Project app integration provides ride mode customisation and firmware updates.

Geometry and handling. The 66.0-66.5° head angle (steeper in M/L/XL than the size S) is squarely modern-trail, more conservative than enduro-focused rivals like the Whyte E-Lyte 150 or the Specialized Levo SL. Reach progresses S 428 mm, M 463 mm, L 488 mm, XL 513 mm — a notably big 35 mm jump from S to M, which makes M-fit awkward for riders around 5'7"-5'8". Chainstay length is fixed at 445 mm across the range. Wheelbase grows from 1,174 mm on the S to 1,270 mm on the XL. Mullet 29in front / 27.5in rear wheels add agility without sacrificing rollover.

Build and value. The Light Cross LC4 is the entry-level trim in the Light Cross family, with SR Suntour suspension (Raidon34 Boost fork and Raidon R shock) keeping the price down. Higher LC5 and LC6 trims step up to Fox 34/RockShox Pike forks and DPS air shocks. The SR Suntour package is functional but the first upgrade target for riders progressing into more technical terrain — the Raidon damping is basic compared to Fox or RockShox equivalents. Shimano XT brakes and a Shimano Deore/SLX 12-speed drivetrain feature on the base trim, with carbon-rim wheels reserved for the LC6 build.

Caveats and known gripes. Husqvarna dealer support outside continental Europe is modest — the UK has a small Pierer Mobility footprint and the brand is more strongly established in Germany, Austria and Italy. The SR Suntour fork is the headline spec compromise, and riders coming from Fox or RockShox systems will notice the difference in damping precision. The 35 mm reach jump from S to M is awkward for riders on the boundary. Short 130 mm front / 120 mm rear travel makes the LC4 primarily a flow-trail and bridleway bike — not for technical descending or sustained gravity use. The Shimano EP801's 85 Nm is now mid-pack against Bosch CX Gen 5 (120 Nm) and Avinox M2S (150 Nm), although ride feel remains highly rated.

Verdict. The Light Cross LC4 is for the trail rider who wants a balanced, quietly-capable carbon eMTB with a proven Shimano motor, big 720 Wh battery and Husqvarna's distinctive aesthetics. It is for European buyers within reach of a Husqvarna dealer, riders who pedal more than they hammer, and anyone who values a removable battery. It is not for big-power chasers, aggressive descenders, or buyers outside the Pierer dealer network. Production status is current and the bike remains available alongside refreshed 2025-2026 lineups.
