SyncDrive Pro-powered mullet eMTB with 400Wh EnergyPak

The Giant Trance X E+ 2025 is Giant's flagship Maestro-suspension trail eMTB. Headline numbers: 150mm fork, 140mm rear, Giant SyncDrive Pro2 motor at 85Nm and 600W peak with a 2.75kg motor mass, a removable 400Wh Giant EnergyPak battery on the lighter (base) build at 18.8kg, with the Elite trim at GBP 5,499 listed at 23.5kg, 64.5 to 66.2 degree head angle in low/high settings and reach 422 to 515mm across twelve flip-chip-coded sizes. Community read: @Rando_12345 stresses that the Trance X E+ and Trance X E+ Elite are "completely different bikes" (like a Levo full-power versus a Levo SL).
Drive system and range. The SyncDrive Pro2 is Giant's house-tuned Yamaha PW-X3 derivative, at 85Nm and 600W peak. It is one of the most responsive non-Bosch full-power motors and is paired here with the 400Wh Giant EnergyPak: a deliberate SL+ choice for the 18.8kg base trim. @ray81 confirms the 2024 motor refresh is 50g lighter than 2023 with better corrosion resistance. Real-world range on 400Wh is roughly 60 to 90 minutes of trail riding in Trail/Auto. @Maxi notes the full-power Trance X E+ 2 (a different sibling) runs an integrated 800Wh battery and weighs ~26.5kg: buyers must read trim sheets carefully.
Geometry and handling. 64.5 to 66.2 degrees depending on flip-chip and size. Reach steps cover an unusually wide range: 422 (SM Low) to 515 (XL High). Chainstays range 437 to 455mm. Wheelbase from 1123 to 1330mm. The Maestro four-bar layout is one of the best pedalling trail platforms on sale, with anti-squat tuned for sustained climbing. @Feawen reports the geometry transforms with a Fox Float X2 (55mm upstroke) and a Fox 38 160mm fork, calling it "the best upgrade possible".
Build and value. Two trims. Elite (GBP 5,499, 23.5kg) is the heavier full-power variant. Base (GBP 6,499, 18.8kg) is the SL-style build with a 400Wh battery. Stock fork is typically a Fox 36 or RockShox 35-class unit on the Elite, with Maxxis trail tyres and a TranzX dropper. The motor is well integrated and the Maestro shock layout supports modest air-to-coil swaps for owners chasing more support out back.
Community-verified strengths.
- Motor character. @Oscar74 describes the SyncDrive as "strong and a nice robotic" feel; @thebradjohns calls power transition above the 32kph cut-off "very smooth".
- Maestro climbing. Confident on sustained singletrack ascents and resists wallow under heavy turbo-mode loads.
- Frame size strategy. Twelve flip-chip-coded sizes is industry-leading and gives genuine fit options.
- Upgrade headroom. Owners like @Feawen and @Ivan push the platform under 20kg with targeted fork/wheel swaps.
Caveats and known gripes.
- Battery and motor reliability. @Kiwiscoot reports an intermittent power-off fault on the 2021 platform unresolved by control, battery, firmware or BMS shim fixes. @trailaddict has had motors swapped on every Giant eMTB owned.
- Out-of-warranty battery replacement. @JamesCB reports Giant declined warranty after a BMS shutdown at 12 charges in 2 years, charging GBP 650 for replacement.
- Headset issue. @LP88 recommends replacing stock Token headset bearings with Acros (42mm ID bottom).
- Naming confusion. Trance X E+, Trance X E+ Elite, Trance X E+ Pro, Trance X E+ 2 are not interchangeable. Confirm battery size, frame material and wheel size before purchase.
Verdict. The 2025 Trance X E+ is a polished Maestro-suspension trail platform with one of the broadest size ranges in the segment, a punchy 85Nm SyncDrive Pro2 motor and a 400Wh battery that keeps the base build at 18.8kg. It suits riders who want SL-class system weight without compromising on motor torque, and who value Giant's flip-chip flexibility. Buyers chasing 800Wh, removable battery and the most up-to-date warranty service story should weigh up the recent owner reports carefully. Production status: current.
