Steeper 68° and shorter travel — happiest descending smooth, flowy trail rather than properly rough or steep terrain.
Talon E+ 2024
How current the bike is — newer chassis, motor and battery score higher. 10 = brand-new, 0 = legacy.

The Giant Talon E+ 29 is the brand's entry-level electric hardtail, an aluminium 29er built around 100mm of coil-sprung front travel, a 68-degree head angle and a long 475mm chainstay across every size. The geometry is classic trail-friendly hardtail rather than aggressive: a 73-degree seat angle and reach figures from 384mm (S) to 470mm (XXL) make it an approachable do-it-all bike for trails, dirt roads and commuting rather than a steep technical descender.
Power comes from Giant's own SyncDrive Core mid-motor, a smooth 55Nm unit run through the RideControl Dash controller with Smart Assist and five support levels. It is the gentlest motor in Giant's eMTB range, so this is a bike for extending your range and easing climbs rather than chasing the highest torque figures.
Three trims were offered in the UK. The 29 3 (£2,249) pairs a Shimano Altus/Alivio 9-speed drivetrain and Tektro brakes with the smaller 400Wh EnergyPak. The 29 2 (£2,399) keeps that build but steps up to the 500Wh pack. The top 29 1 (£2,599) adds a 500Wh battery, a 10-speed Shimano Deore drivetrain, Shimano hydraulic brakes and a lockout XCR fork, making it the pick for riders who want the longer range and crisper shifting. All three share the same frame, geometry and Maxxis Rekon 2.4in tyres.
This generation is now discontinued. Giant has since replaced it with an all-new Talon E+ built around the more powerful SyncDrive Sport 2 motor, a removable EnergyPak 430 battery and a RideControl Dash 2 controller, so the SyncDrive Core bike documented here is a previous-generation model best found on clearance.
What the numbers mean on the trail
Computed from this bike's geometry, spec and build kit — reach, wheelbase, chainstay, head and seat angles, travel, motor, weight and the fork/tyre/brake spec — and worked out per size, because a fixed chainstay can make an S and an XL feel very different.
A fair bit of pop, but happiest on flowing trail rather than trials moves.
Rear-long with a planted front in L (FC:RC 1.51) — easy to weight the front and quick to turn, though it can feel light at the back at real speed.
Climbs well — a 73° seat keeps the front planted. 250W of peak power and 50Nm of torque.
No single standout trait — a balanced, versatile bike.
Fine at trail pace; it'll feel out of its depth on properly rough, steep tracks.
