EMTB Forums verdict

The Commencal Meta Power TR 2024 is the Andorran brand's aluminium trail eMTB, refreshed for 2024 with Bosch's Performance Line CX Gen 4 motor. It runs 150 mm of fork travel and 140 mm rear on a 4-bar full-29 chassis with flip-chip geometry adjustment. Headline numbers: 85 Nm of torque, a removable 625 Wh PowerTube battery, a claimed 24.4 kg system weight, a 64 to 64.5 degree adjustable head angle and reach growing from 440 to 510 mm across four sizes. £5,500 base trim. Production status: discontinued (Commencal exited the eMTB market after this generation). Community verdict: a well-thought-out value trail platform that delivered Commencal's signature trail-focused geometry before the brand stepped back from eMTB production.

Drive system and range. The Bosch Performance Line CX Gen 4 brings 85 Nm of torque. The 625 Wh PowerTube is removable for off-bike charging and gives proper trail-day range, with mixed terrain use typically reaching 45 to 70 km depending on assist mode and rider weight. The Bosch system pairs with Kiox displays and pushes firmware via the Bosch app. Earlier Shimano EP8-powered Meta Power TR variants had documented setup issues where the cable between engine and battery shipped disconnected from the factory: owners needed to plug in the cable through the motor access bay on the LHS above the bottom bracket before first ride.

Geometry and handling. A 64 to 64.5 degree flip-chip-adjustable head angle is bang on the modern trail-aggressive norm. Reach grows from 440 mm in S to 510 mm in XL, a useful 70 mm spread. The 453 mm chainstay is identical across all sizes and on the longer side of the trail-eMTB market, which favours stable climbing and high-speed composure. The seat angle adjusts from 77.1 to 77.5 degrees via the flip-chip, giving riders the option to dial fit between climbing-friendly and slack-seat positioning. Wheelbases run 1230 to 1304 mm. 29-inch wheels across the range.

Build and value. The base trim at £5,500 brings RockShox Lyrik Select+ at 150 mm, RockShox Deluxe Select+ shock, SRAM Guide RE four-piston brakes and a SRAM GX Eagle 12-speed drivetrain. The Race trim above brings the Lyrik Ultimate Charger 3 RC2, RockShox Super Deluxe Ultimate Coil and TRP DH-R EVO brakes. The flagship Ohlins Edition brings the Ohlins RXF36 fork with 35 mm uppers and Ohlins TTX22 air shock. The standout strength is the chassis and Bosch CX motor for the price: a Lyrik-spec full-power Bosch alloy trail eMTB at £5,500 was genuinely competitive. The questionable note is the discontinued production status, which limits future warranty and parts support.

Community-verified strengths. Commencal Meta Power TR owners have praised the chassis as a properly considered trail platform, with the 4-bar linkage and flip-chip flexibility delivering a versatile ride feel. Commencal's pedigree in downhill and enduro shows in the geometry: 64 degree head angle, 453 mm chainstay and 77 degree seat angle have been called as bang on UK trail terrain. The 625 Wh removable battery and Bosch's app-driven firmware update path add ownership confidence over the life of the bike.

Caveats and known gripes. The most consistent factory-fresh issue on the Shimano-powered variants was the disconnected battery-motor cable shipping from Commencal, which caused power-on display failures until the dealer or owner connected the cable in the motor access bay. Commencal have since discontinued their eMTB line, which means new buyers will need to confirm warranty support arrangements before purchasing remaining stock. The 24.4 kg system weight is mid-pack for an aluminium full-power eMTB but heavier than carbon rivals. The single chainstay across sizes leaves XL riders without proportional rear-centre stretch.

Verdict. The Meta Power TR 2024 suits the trail rider who wants Commencal's well-developed flip-chip alloy chassis with Bosch CX power and a 625 Wh removable battery, particularly if available at end-of-line dealer pricing. Riders chasing current production status, longer-term warranty support or carbon construction should look at the Cannondale Moterra Neo Carbon, the Marin Alpine Trail E or the Norco Sight VLT. Production status: discontinued.
