Business at the front, party at the back - Bosch CX mullet enduro/freeride eMTB

The Commencal Meta Power SX 2025 is an aluminium full-power mullet e-enduro built around the Bosch Performance Line CX Gen 5, sitting at the long-travel, hard-charging end of the segment. Headline numbers: 120 Nm of torque, 625 Wh Bosch PowerTube battery, 170 mm front / 165 mm rear travel, a 64.0 degree head angle and 25.2 kg claimed. The community read on the Commencal Meta Power SX platform is generally positive on geometry and frame quality, with the usual Commencal alloy-bike caveats on weight and component spec.
Drive system and range. The 2025 Bosch CX Gen 5 unit is the latest iteration of Bosch's full-power line, delivering 120 Nm of torque and a 750 W manufacturer-claimed peak through the post-PU2.0 firmware update that unlocked the eMTB+ mode and around 400% rider support. The motor is lighter than its Gen 4 predecessor at 2.8 kg thanks to a magnesium casing, and Bosch has finally cured the long-running "clacking" gearbox noise that plagued earlier versions. The 625 Wh PowerTube battery is removable and is on the modest side for a 25.2 kg full-power enduro platform — riders pushing hard in 170 mm terrain should expect three to four hours of real ride time before reserves bite. 501AM notes that the smaller-size frame is in fact specced with a 600 Wh battery, lighter than rivals like the YT Decoy X's 800 Wh.
Geometry and handling. The Meta Power SX runs aggressive enduro geometry across the four-size range: reach progresses from 440 mm (S) to 460 mm (M), 485 mm (L) and 510 mm in XL. The 64.0 degree head angle is fixed across all sizes and sits firmly in steep-and-deep enduro territory, helped by a 445 mm chainstay (shorter than most rivals) and wheelbase that grows from 1,237 mm (S) to 1,316 mm (XL). The frame uses a triple-butted T4/T6 alloy construction with integrated PowerTube and a flip-chip for geometry adjustment, on a mullet 29/27.5 wheel setup. This is one of the most aggressive geometries in the alloy e-enduro segment.
Build and value. Only the base trim is on file for 2025, equipped with a Fox 38 Performance 170 mm fork, Fox Float X Performance or RockShox Super Deluxe shock depending on level, TRP DH-R Evo 4-piston brakes, and SRAM GX Eagle or Shimano SLX 12-speed depending on build. The Race and Signature specs upgrade to the RockShox Super Deluxe Ultimate DebonAir RC2T with high- and low-speed compression. Scotty C flags the basic Maven wheelset as the weak link, with riders wishing the bike came with the upgraded 1700-series rims.
Community-verified strengths. First, frame quality and looks: MeatBike notes that the alloy Meta Power SX is preferred over carbon rivals for build feel, and bighungry34 calls his Meta SX "beautiful" with handling that is "agile, poppy and fun". Second, technical depth from Commencal: Andorranik explains the Bosch motor angle adjustment is for the wheel-magnet pickup, with the option to use a rear-disc sensor that bypasses the adjustment entirely.
Caveats and known gripes. First, weight: Plummet warns that an alloy 25 kg-plus eMTB feels significantly heavier than a carbon equivalent once you add water, mud and a few accessories, "quickly knocking close to 30 kg". Second, basic wheel spec at this price point (Scotty C). Third, the modest 625 Wh battery for an enduro-weight chassis (501AM).
Verdict. The Commencal Meta Power SX 2025 suits the rider who wants properly aggressive enduro geometry, the latest Bosch CX Gen 5 motor with full dealer support, and Commencal's well-regarded alloy frame construction at a sensible price point relative to carbon rivals. Less suitable for riders chasing the lightest possible weight, premium component spec out of the box, or maximum battery capacity. Production status: current.
