EMTB Forums verdict

The BH AtomX Lynx Pro is the trail-oriented build of BH's AtomX Lynx platform for 2023, running 140mm of travel front and rear on 29in wheels. The frame is the AtomX Lynx carbon chassis with an alloy rear triangle (BH lists it verbatim as '140mm Full Susp. Carbon 29in Internal Cable Routing, Acros ICR / Alloy Rear Triangle'), which sits a step below the full-carbon AtomX Lynx Carbon Pro models that share the same 140mm travel but use a full-carbon back end. Power comes from the Brose S Mag motor, badged by BH under its 'X System', a magnesium-bodied unit rated at 90 Nm fed by a 720Wh integrated battery with a claimed range of up to 155 km.

Geometry is sensible rather than extreme for the era: a 66 degree head angle, 77 degree seat angle, 455mm chainstays across the range and reach from 428mm (S) to 490mm (XL), with stack climbing from 603mm to 630mm. Two trims were offered. The 8.2 (£5,699.90) pairs a RockShox Recon RL fork and Deluxe shock with an 11-speed Shimano Deore drivetrain and MT420 four-piston brakes on 203mm rotors. The 8.4 (£6,299.90) steps up to a FOX 34 Float Rhythm fork, FOX Float DPS Performance shock and a 12-speed cassette, sharing the same four-piston brakes and BH finishing kit.

This bike is discontinued. BH rebranded the AtomX Lynx line to the iLynx range from 2024 onwards, so the 2023 AtomX Lynx Pro is the last of the AtomX-badged trail bikes. Anyone cross-shopping it today should note it is a carbon-front bike with an alloy back end, not a full-alloy frame, and that the later iLynx supersedes it.

What the numbers mean on the trail

Computed from this bike's geometry, spec and build kit — reach, wheelbase, chainstay, head and seat angles, travel, motor, weight and the fork/tyre/brake spec — and worked out per size, because a fixed chainstay can make an S and an XL feel very different.

Size
Descending
59

A solid all-round descender (66° head angle, 140mm) — capable in the rough and steep without being an all-out bruiser.

Playfulness
39

More planted than poppy — better on steep terrain than tight, fiddly singletrack.

Size balance
60

Not enough geometry on record to judge size balance.

Technical climbing
64

Climbs well — a 77° seat keeps the front planted. 560W of peak power and 90Nm of torque — a strong full-power motor.

Best suited toAll-round trail riding across mixed terrain.

No single standout trait — a balanced, versatile bike.

Watch out forNot a flickable, playful bike — built to plough, not pop.

Brilliant on fast, rough, steep terrain; less fun on tight, mellow trails.
