EMTB Forums verdict

The 2023 BH AtomX Lynx Carbon (catalogued by BH as the iLynx Trail Carbon, product codes EC862 to EC892) is a full-carbon 150mm trail eMTB built around BH's Split Pivot suspension and the Brose Drive S Mag motor, which BH brands internally as the 2EXMAGII unit with a telemetry torque sensor. All four carbon trims share one frame and geometry: a 66 degree head angle, 75.5 degree seat angle, short 451mm SuperBoost chainstays and reach from 430mm (S) to 490mm (XL), giving it a lively, descent-focused stance.

The range splits cleanly. The Carbon 8.6 and Carbon 8.7 run the 540Wh XPro battery, while the Carbon Pro 8.8 and Carbon Pro 8.9 step up to the 720Wh pack. UK RRPs ran from around £6,599 for the 8.6 to £8,999 for the Pro 8.9. The lower trims pair FOX 36 Performance or Factory forks with Shimano Deore and SLX shifting, while the Pro models add FOX 36 Factory and Float X Factory damping and climb through XT to full XTR, with a FOX Transfer Factory dropper on the 8.9. Every trim shares 29in Race Face wheels, Maxxis Minion rubber and four-piston Shimano brakes on 203mm rotors.

This generation is discontinued. BH transitioned the AtomX naming to the iLynx badge during this very catalogue (the MY2023 listing shows both names), and the platform was later superseded by the lighter Shimano-powered iLynx models. As a used buy it remains a capable, stiff carbon trail machine with strong battery options, though the Brose motor and SuperBoost rear spacing are worth factoring into long-term parts and service planning.

What the numbers mean on the trail

Computed from this bike's geometry, spec and build kit — reach, wheelbase, chainstay, head and seat angles, travel, motor, weight and the fork/tyre/brake spec — and worked out per size, because a fixed chainstay can make an S and an XL feel very different.

Size
Descending
58

A solid all-round descender (66° head angle, 150mm) — capable in the rough and steep without being an all-out bruiser.

Playfulness
39

More planted than poppy — better on steep terrain than tight, fiddly singletrack.

Size balance
60

Not enough geometry on record to judge size balance.

Technical climbing
51

Climbs well — a 75.5° seat keeps the front planted. 560W of peak power and 90Nm of torque — a strong full-power motor.

Best suited toAll-round trail riding across mixed terrain.

No single standout trait — a balanced, versatile bike.

Watch out forNot a flickable, playful bike — built to plough, not pop.

Brilliant on fast, rough, steep terrain; less fun on tight, mellow trails.
